Mrs Mary Hooton

Rushden Echo, 21st December 1917, transcribed by Gill Hollis

The death occurred suddenly on Sunday last, at 4, Upper-Queen-street, of Mrs. Mary Hooton, wife of Mr. Thomas Hooton, at the age of 60 years.  The deceased lady had been in indifferent health for the past twelve months, but was able to continue at her domestic duties until the last.  It appears that about midday on Sunday Mrs. Hooton had just prepared dinner, when she was seized with a heart attack, and passed away in a very few minutes.  She leaves a husband, four sons, and six daughters to mourn their loss.  For many years the late Mrs. Hooton has been a member of the B.W.T.A. Mothers’ Meeting, and was at the meeting yesterday week.  She was highly respected by all who knew her by reason of her kind disposition and willingness to do anyone a good turn.  The funeral took place yesterday at the cemetery, the Rev. Harry Shaw (Wesleyan) officiating.  The coffin, which was of polished elm with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-

MARY HOOTON
Born January 7th, 1857
Died December 16th, 1917.

The mourners comprised: Mr. Thomas Hooton (husband) and Mrs. A. Bass (daughter), Mr. Harry Hooton (son), and Mrs. M. Horsfield (daughter), Mr. J. Hooton (son) and Mrs. O. Johnson (daughter), Pte. William Hooton, K.R.R. (son) and Mrs. S. Barnes (daughter), Mrs. T. Robinson (daughter) and Miss E. Green (sister), Mrs. R. Russell and Mrs. J. Carter (sisters), Pte. T. Robinson, Training Reserve, Pte. S. Barnes, H.S.E.C., and Mr. O. Johnson (sons-in-law), Mrs. T. Hooton (daughter-in-law), Mrs. H. Hooton (daughter-in-law), Mr. Harold Hooton (grandson) and Miss Celia Hooton (grand-daughter).  A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave.  Mr. T. Hooton and family wish to thank all kind friends who have expressed sympathy with them in their great bereavement.
