Mr. William Clipson Hollis
Funeral at Rushden - Remains laid to Rest


A respected inhabitant of Rushden passed away on Sunday, at the age of 70 years, in the person of Mr. William Clipson Hollis. Deceased, who lived at the house in High-street known as the Old Coach and Horses, was coachman to Mrs. Sartoris, of Rushden Hall, for over 45 years. His services were greatly valued and he was much respected by the whole staff at the Hall. He leaves a widow, three sons, and a daughter. Ion politics the deceased was a staunch Conservative, and he was one of the first members of the Rushden Conservative Club, continuing his association with that institution up to the time of his death. The end came peacefully after about four months’ illness.

The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, the cortege first of all proceeding to St. Mary’s Church where the first portion of the burial service was read by the Rector, the Ven. A. Kitchin, who also officiated at the graveside. The coffin which was of polished elm, with massive brass fittings, bore the inscription:-

William Clipson Hollis
Died July 21st 1912
Aged 70 years.
