Funeral of Mr. Joseph Green
Rushden Tradesman Passes Away
A Well-Known Resident


The death took place on March 20th at 5.45 a.m., of Mr. Joseph Green, at his residence, 119 High-street, Rushden, after a painful illness.

Deceased, who had carried on a pork butcher’s business for 23 years had a paralytic stroke whilst at Thrapston market nearly three months ago, and he had to be conveyed to his home. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters. During his illness he received every possible attention from Dr. Baker. Deceased was a member of the Conservative Club, and attended the Park-road Baptist Church.

The funeral took place on March 23rd, the first part of the obsequies being conducted in the Park-road Baptist Church by the Rev. C. J. Keeler. There were many friends and sympathisers present. The hymns were “Peace, perfect peace,” and “Jesu, Lover of my soul.”

The organist, Mr. J. L. Clipson, A.R.C.O., played the “Dead March” in “Saul.”

The mourners were: Mrs. J. Green (widow) and Mr. Herbert Green (son); Mrs. J. Iliffe (daughter) and Mr. Percy Green (son); Miss Gertie Green (daughter) and Mr. Leonard Green (son); Mr. Charles Green (brother) and Mrs. Parker (sister); Mr. Will Green (brother) and Mrs. Margetts (sister); Mr. J. Iliffe (son-in-law) and Mrs. H. Green (daughter-in-law); Mr. W. Parker (brother-in-law) and Mrs. L. Green (daughter-in-law); Mr. W. Margetts (brother-in-law) and Mrs. Percy Green (daughter-in-law); Miss Sparkes and Mr. George Hopes; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Green (niece and nephew); Messrs. A. Evans, J. Bugby, Cox and J. Hyde. The followers included Messrs. F. Wilkins, G. Hollis and R. A. Wheeler.

The coffin, of polished elm, bore the inscription:

JOSEPH GREEN.
Died March 20th, 1916,
Aged 63.
