Rushden Echo, 11th April 1924, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr Albert Franklin

Obituary—Much regret is felt at the death which occurred at Grove-street, Higham Ferrers, of Mr Albert Franklin, on Tuesday, being within a few days of the 73rd anniversary of his birthday. Deceased was a native of Thornborough, Bucks, but had lived in this locality for many years. He was looked on as the leading building contractor in the district for a considerable period. A good number of dwelling houses were erected by him in Rushden and Higham, helping to develop the two towns.

More recently (1911) he built the Royal Theatre, Rushden, as a speculation, supplying a much needed want, and he always kept up a high tone entertainment there. In 1918 he sold the Theatre to the present owners, The Rushden Cinema Co. Ltd., the high standard still being carried on. Mr Franklin, who many years ago lived at Rushden, has long been known by his almost youthful activity and by his genial courtesy. About a month ago he was the victim of cerebral haemorrhage, and of a second seizure last week. He was unconscious for several days, his friends devoting every care and attention, but without avail. Much sympathy is felt with Mrs Franklin, who is an invalid.

Note: in 1910 Albert was the owner of "show grounds" at the north end of High-Street,
where the Feast was held for some years.
