The Rushden Echo, 23rd December 1904, transcribed by Gill Hollis.
Death of Mr. George Fountain of Rushden

Residents in Rushden will learn with very deep regret the one of the most highly respected tradesmen of the town, Mr. Geo. Fountain, plumber, of Griffith-street, passed away this morning just after seven o’clock. The deceased gentleman, who was 49 years of age, was a native of Sharnbrook but had lived in Rushden since he was eighteen years old. A year or two after coming to Rushden Mr. Fountain established himself in business as a plumber, and by his unfailing courtesy and business ability, no less than by his strict integrity, earned for himself the highest esteem of his fellow townsmen. He had been suffering since last Christmas from an internal complaint, but was able to get about until a week or two ago. On Tuesday he was, however, taken worse, and death took place, as stated, this morning.

Mr. Fountain had filled several public positions with ability and was for some years a member of the Rushden Urban Council. He had been the president of the Rushden Builders’ Association and a director of the Conservative Club. He was a staunch Conservative, but was by no means a bigoted partisan. He was a consistent Churchman and was a sidesman at the Parish Church for some years. He leaves behind him a widow, seven daughters, and two sons, and the latter will continue their father’s business. The funeral will take place on Monday or Tuesday next.
