We regret to announce the death which occurred at his residence at 7, Queen Mary Avenue, Moordown, Bournemouth, of Dr Charles R Fisher, formerly of Rushden, where he was well known. On Saturday morning after breakfast, he went out to fetch a newspaper and became suddenly ill. His wife called in a doctor, but Mr Fisher, who had been subject to heart trouble, passed away at six o’clock in the evening.

Son of a clock maker, who for about half a century attended to the Parish Church clock, and conducted business in High-street and Wellingborough-road, Mr Fisher was born in Rushden *some 70 years ago. He studied the pianoforte as a boy and became so proficient that he was able to earn his living as a musician. He had many pupils and was a fine accompanist at concerts, at one time assisting Rushden Choral Society. The men he associated with in those days included such well-known musicians as William Skinner, Joseph Farey and T C Clarke.

It was in America, where he held an important appointment, that Mr Fisher developed his career and won a degree as doctor of music. He married an American lady, but paid frequent visits to England and crossed the Atlantic over 30 times, finally settling again in the old country. During his visits to England, Dr Fisher gave numerous organ recitals in the churches of this district, and devoted some portion of his time to his great hobby, which was the compiling of historical notes in reference to Rushden and the district. Some time ago the “Echo and Argus” published a series of articles written by Dr Fisher on the history of Rushden, which were followed with interest for over a year.

The funeral took place at Bournemouth on Tuesday, and was attended by Miss Trissie Fisher, Dr Fisher’s sister, who resides in Wellingborough-road, Rushden.
