Funeral of Mrs. L.V. Elliott

Fellow churchworkers and members of Rushden Choral Society were among the many who gathered at Rushden Cemetery on Friday to pay a last tribute of respect to Mrs. Margaret Daisy Elliott, whose passing on Monday week came as a great shock to her many friends in the town and district.

Mrs. Elliott was the wife of Mr. L. V. Elliott, of 80, Spencer Road, Rushden, Editor of the “Rushden Echo and Argus” and chief reporter in the town for the “Evening Telegraph” and allied newspapers, to whom sincere sympathy has been extended in his sudden bereavement.

A service was held at the house, conducted by the minister of the High Street Congregational Church, Wellingborough (the Rev. Fred Stafford), who also officiated at the cemetery on the way to which the cortege stopped for a few moments outside the Rushden Congregational Church, of which Mrs. Elliott had been a devoted member and active worker.

The principal mourners, attending the service at the house were Mr. L. V. Elliott (widower), Miss A. I. Mead, St. Neots (step-sister), Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Mead, Wellingborough (step brother and step sister), Mrs. M. Elliott (mother-in-law) Mr. C. Smith (uncle), Mrs. G. Scroxton, Leicester (aunt), Miss G. L. Elliott (sister-in-law) Mrs. E. M. Elliott, Kettering (sister-in-law) Mr and Mrs. F. Darlow, Mr and Mrs. J. W. Cooke, Mrs. R Evans, Miss I. Page, Wellingborough, Mrs. W. J. Turner, Miss F. Chettle and Mr. S. George, Irchester (friends)

Representatives attending at the cemetery included: Rushden Congregational Church Mrs. Payne (deacon), Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Whitworth, Mrs. Reeves, Mr. and Mrs. Farrer and Miss Berry.

Rushden Choral Society : Mr. Arthur Wilmott (president), Mr. B. C. Tomkins (conductor), Mr. J. Lindsay Clipson (accompanist), Mrs. W. H. Cave, Mrs. S. C. Brightwell, Mrs. W. Hewitt, Mrs. H.V. Ingram and Miss Clipson.

There followed a comprehensive list of floral tributes.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. T. Swindall and Son.
