Rushden Echo, 23rd August 1918

OBITUARY – An old and respected resident of Rushden passed away on Tuesday in the person of Mr. Jonathan Ellis, aged 70, of Woburn-place.  The deceased, who came from Podington, had lived in Rushden for over half a century.  For very many years he was a member of Succoth Baptist Chapel, and was for a considerable period a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir of that place of worship.  He took a keen interest in music, and at one time used to give lessons on the piano and violin.  He leaves a widow (his second wife).  The funeral took place at the cemetery yesterday, Mr. Bennett officiating.  The coffin, which was of polished elm, with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-
