Mr. Henry Eden

The Death took place yesterday morning at 138, High-street, after a long and painful illness, of Mr. Henry Eden, aged 67. For four and a half years deceased had been unable to follow his employment but he bore a trying affliction with remarkable patience and fortitude. For many years he was actively associated with the Rushden Independent Wesleyan Church, of which he was one of the leaders. He was a strong advocate of total abstinence, and for many years was a Rechabite. He leaves a widow and four daughters.

The Funeral of the late Mr. Henry Eden, whose death we reported in our last issue, took place on Monday in the cemetery at Rushden in the presence of many sympathizers. The first portion of the burial service was conducted in the Independent Wesleyan Church, with which the deceased gentleman was for many years prominently associated. The Rev S. J. Smith and the Rev. T. G. Harper, of Bradford, and formerly of Rushden, officiated both in the chapel and at the graveside. The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings and bore the inscription:-

HENRY EDEN
Died July 20th, 1916
Aged 67 years.

The mourners comprised:- Mrs. Henry Eden (widow), Mr. T. Eden (brother), Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Lawson (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Leeding (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. E. Bandey (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Wooding (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. John Eden (brother), and Mrs. J. Mortimer (sister), Mrs. J. Lovell (sister), Mr. Edgar Leeding (grandson), Mr. Harold Leeding (grandson), and Miss Frances Leeding (grand-daughter), Mrs. L. Eden (niece), Mr. F. Askins (friend), Mrs. T. Wyant and Mrs. F. Wyant (sisters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. W. Bettles (nephew and niece). Mr. T. Swindall was the undertaker. A number of beautiful floral tributes to the memory of the deceased were placed on the grave.
