Margaret Joyce Dodd
Laid To Rest - Little Rushden Girl Whose Father Died Recently

The funeral of Margaret Joyce Dodd, aged eight, was held at Rushden Cemetery on Monday. Margaret was one of the three children of Mrs. W. Dodd, whose husband died recently.

The chief mourners were Mr. F. Boast (grandfather), Mrs. M. A. Dodd (grandmother), Mrs. J. Hill (aunt), Mrs. M. Walker (aunt). The Alfred-street School was represented by Mr. S. A. Lawrence (headmaster). Mr. H. Hales, Mr. H. Devlin, Miss N. Groome, Miss C. M. Bennett, Miss K. O’Connor, Miss George, Miss M. Wright and Miss D. Hill (headmistress of the Infants’ Department). Evacuees in the town were represented by Mr. Orrin and Miss Lucas, and Councillor F. Green represented the School Managers. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. L. Warrington (curate-in-charge of St. Peter’s), whose Sunday School Margaret attended.

The floral tributes were inscribed as follows :-

To darling little Joyce from her heart-broken Mummy, Maud, Keith and Baby; Safe in the arms of Jesus – With deepest sympathy from Cecil and Sonnie to Joyce; With deepest sympathy to my little playmate from Josi Abram; With deepest sympathy from the children, teachers and headmaster of Alfred-street School; To little Joyce from Aunt Win and family, also Kath and Bob – Jesus wants me for a sunbeam – Safe in the arms of Jesus; In loving memory of Joyce, from Aunt Maud, Uncle Albert, Jean, Joan and Mrs. Judd; To dearest Joyce with sweet memories from Grandma, Auntie Ethel, Uncle Ted and her little cousins; To dearest Joyce with loving thoughts from Auntie Jess, Uncle Bob and cousins Gwen and Bill; To little Joyce from neighbours and friends.

The undertakers were Messrs. Arthur Sanders, Ltd.
