Rushden Echo, 10th July 1914, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr. Daniel Dickens

Rushden has lost an old and respected resident in the person of Mr. Daniel Dickens at the age of 69. The deceased was a farmer in former times at Rushden and Newton. He was a staunch Churchman and Conservative, and used to take a deep interest in ancient architecture, often travelling great distances to study old buildings. He had suffered for about four months from dropsy, and death took place on Wednesday week. He leaves three sons and two daughters. The funeral took place at Rushden cemetery on Saturday, the Rector (Rev. P. E. Robson, M.A.) conducting the service. The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings, and bore the inscription:-

DANIEL DICKENS,
Died July 1st, 1914,
Aged 69 years.

The mourners were:- Mr. H. Dickens and Mrs. A. Houghton (son and daughter). Mr. E. Dickens and Miss A. Dickens (son and daughter), Mr. H. Day and Mrs. Smart (nephew and niece), Mr. A. Houghton, Mrs. H. Dickens, and Mrs. E. Dickens (son-in-law and daughters-in-law).
