Rushden Echo, 6th July 1928, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr Jabez Cowley

Obituary—With deep regret we record the death, which took place on Tuesday evening, of Mr Jabez Cowley, aged 64, of 17, Church-street, Rushden, resulting from heart troubles. Deceased, a native of Rushden, had lived in the town practically all his life. He had been apprenticed as a currier. Some 20 years ago he started on his own account in the hardware business, having premises in Church-street. Greatly devoted to the Wesleyan Reform Mission Church, Mr Cowley held the office of sidesman and was at one time chapel steward. He resigned the latter position in view of his intention to visit his son in Australia. Mr Cowley paid a second visit to the Commonwealth a few years ago, taking Mrs Cowley in the hope of both benefiting in health. Mrs Cowley, however, was worse, and they returned home again. There are left to mourn the loss of a devoted father two daughters, Mrs J Smith and Mrs G Miller, and one son, Mr J W Cowley, in Australia. Another son, Mr Harry Cowley, was killed in the war. The funeral took place this afternoon, a service in the Mission Church preceding the interment.
