Mr. J. W. Corby, Rushden

After two months illness, Mr. James William Corby died on Sunday evening at his home, 'Park Cottage,' Park-road, Rushden, aged 65.

Mr. Corby was greatly esteemed as the cashier in the office of the Wellingborough brewery firm of Messrs. Campbell Praed and Co., Ltd., with whom he had been associated for 37 years.

The son of the late Mr. William Corby, he was a native of Rushden and a prominent Freemason in the Wentworth Lodge, Wellingborough, of which he was a Past Master. He was for 25 years secretary, held Provincial rank, and was a member of the Chapter.

He leaves a widow, who was formerly Miss Emma Brawn, the only daughter of the late Mr. John Brawn, of Rushden.

The funeral service took place at St. Mary’s Parish Church on Wednesday afternoon, and was conducted by the Rev. E. A. Green (Rector), assisted by the deceased's nephew, the Rev. Rex Meakin, of Leicester, and the Rev. J. Rowell (curate). Mr. A. Clarke, A.R.G.O., was at the organ, and the hymns, 'On the resurrection morning' and 'Sun of my soul', and the 23rd Psalm were sung.

The family mourners were Mrs. J. W. Corby (widow), Mr. and Mrs. R. Marriott (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs. P. Watson (sister), Mr. and Mrs. E. Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Marriott, Mr. R. Sargent and Mrs. B. Meakin (nephews and nieces), Mr. R. Knight (cousin), Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Radburne and Mr. O. Brown, Wellingborough (friends).

The grave was lined with evergreen and daffodils.

Messrs. Whittington and Tomlin carried out the funeral arrangements.
