John Colgrave
Inquest on Rushden Patient

A verdict of "Death due to bronchial pneumonia, accelerated by a fracture of the thigh suffered accidentally" was recorded at a Northampton inquest on Wednesday on John Colgrave (76), 7 Little-street, Rushden.

The Coroner for Mid-Northants (Mr. T Faulkner Gammage) conducted the inquiry at the Pendered Hospital.

A son-in-law, George Frederick Gray, 14 Griffiths-street, Rushden, said that prior to the breakdown which caused Colgrave to enter the hospital, his general health had been good.

A mental nurse, Herbert Gutteridge, described a struggle that had taken place with Colgrave, who had to be put into bed again.

Dr. C. A. Keane, medical superintendent, said that the patient was confused, and restless, and often cut and bruised himself. "Such an incident as had been described," said the doctor, "might be sufficient to cause a fracture."

Dr. Carmel Bore also gave evidence. [part of a longer article]
