Funeral of Centenarian

Mrs. Clarke Buried at Yelden

The funeral of Mrs. S. Clarke, who had for the last five years resided in Rushden, and who died at the age of 100, took place in Yelden Churchyard on January 17th. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. Howes Smith (Rector). The hymn “O God, our help in ages past,” was sung, also the “Nunc Dimittis”; and as the cortege left the Church the “Dead March” was played by Mrs. C. Howes Smith.

The coffin bore the inscription:

Sarah Clarke
Born March 29th 1813
Died January 15th 1914
Aged 100.

The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. J. Holyoak, Mr. and Mrs. E. Cowley (nephews and nieces) and the Misses A. and E. Holyoak (nieces), and many friends were present, the deceased having resided in the village for 95 years. Several wreaths were sent by relatives and friends.
