Rushden Echo & Argus, 26th August 1932, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs E. Clark

We regret to report the death which occurred at Folkestone on Friday last, of Mrs. Ellen Clark, the wife of Mr. Charles Clark, of “Wellingtonia,” Irchester-road, Rushden, at the age of 64 years. Mrs. Clark had been at Southampton on holiday, visiting her daughter, and went on to another daughter at Folkestone on August 8th. Her illness, which commenced with a chill, started on August 12th, and later developed into bronchitis, turning to pneumonia in the right lung, and finally double pneumonia. On Tuesday, August 16th, Mrs. Clark was admitted to the “Bevan” Nursing home at Sandgate, where she was attended by Dr. Parker, and she passed away there at 2p.m. on Friday last, despite all possible attention, including the administration of oxygen.

The deceased lady, whose husband is a noted owner of racing pigeons, was, before her marriage, Miss Ellen Perkins. She took her full share in the social life of the town, and often lent her residence for parties in aid of charity. A leading worker at the Wellingborough-road Mission Church, she was at one time active in the B.W.T.A. movement, and in recent years had worked very zealously at the Rushden Clinic of the Manfield Orthopaedic Hospital.

Mrs. Clark was very closely associated with her husband in his interests in pigeon racing, with the Rushden Homing Society, Wellingborough and District Homing Society, the Peterborough and District Federation of Homing Societies, the Northants Federation of Homing Societies, the Northants Social Circle, and the North Road Championship Club.

The bereaved children are Capt. Charles Clark, a well-known sportsman, Mr. Bernard Clark, who has assisted Rushden Town F.C. as an amateur, Mr. Jack Clark, Mrs. Knott, of Toronto, Mrs. Spratling, of Southampton, and Mrs. Roberts, of Folkestone.

One son, the late Mr. Tom L. Clark, died as a result of war wounds.

The funeral took place at Rushden on Tuesday afternoon, a service being held at the Wellingborough-road Mission Church, and was led by the Rev. E. E. Bromage, and afterwards for the interment at the Rushden cemetery. The coffin, which was brought from Folkestone by road, consisted of an elm shell, covered with violet baize, upholstered in swansdown with silk side sheets, ruffle, pillow and mattress; and oak case with double mouldings, all wax polished, with four pairs of solid brass handles and plates, and inscription plate on oak mount.

The family mourners were Mr. Charles Clark (widower), Captain Charles H. Clark, Mr. Bernard Clark and Mr. John Clark (sons), Mrs. A. C. Spratling and Mrs. C. H. Roberts (daughters), Captain C. H. Roberts (son-in-law), Mrs. Charles H. Clark and Mrs. Bernard Clark (daughters-in-law), Mrs. Naomi Walker (sister), .........................
