The Funeral took place on Saturday in the Cemetery of the late Mr. William Carvell, of Robinson-road, Rushden, who passed away at the age of 54 on Wednesday week, after a painful illness. The deceased was a trustee of the Rushden Town Band Club, and was one of the members of the Rifle Band who helped to form that musical combination. He was also a very highly respected member of the old National Band, which was broken up about 16 years ago. The Rifle Band, under the leadership of Bandmaster E. Whitworth, attended the funeral, and preceded the cortege, playing the Dead March in Saul. The burial service was conducted by the Rector, the Ven. A. Kitchin. After the coffin had been lowered into the grave, the band played the hymn “Henry,” the favourite hymn of the deceased bandsman, and also “Nearer, my God, to Thee.” The coffin which was of polished elm, with brass fittings, bore the inscription:- William Haines Carvell Died July 17th 1912 Aged 54. A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave, with a handsome permanent wreath from the members and officials of the Rushden Town Band Club. The family of the late Mr. William Haines Carvell desire to thank all kind friends who have expressed sympathy with them in their bereavement.
