Mr. Wilfred Ernest Capon
Former Council Chairman Dies

After an illness lasting two weeks, Mr. Wilfred Ernest Capon (84), former chairman of Rushden Urban Council, died in a Bristol hospital on Monday night.

Mr. Capon, who twice served as chairman during his 24 years on Rushden Urban Council, leaves a daughter, Mrs. Megan Morris, of Bristol, a son, Dr. Alec Capon, who lives in Toronto, Canada, and two grandchildren.

Managing director of John Cave and Sons Ltd. (now Eaton and Co.) from 1926 to 1956, he was also an active social worker in Rushden. For fifty years Mr. Capon was a Methodist lay preacher. He was also a founder member of the town’s After Care Committee.

The funeral took place at Bristol yesterday.

Mr Wilfred E Capon, secretary of Messrs John Cave and Sons Ltd., Rushden, has passed the Intermediate examination of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.
