Rushden Echo, 11th January 1918, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mrs. Sarah Ann Caldwell

OBITUARY – We deeply regret to record the death, which took place on Friday last, at 17, Harborough-road, of Mrs. Sarah Ann Caldwell, at the age of 61 years.  The deceased was the widow of the late Mr. John Robert Caldwell, who predeceased her four years ago.  Until quite recently the deceased lady was able to continue at her domestic duties, and it is only about a fortnight since that she was finally compelled to take to her bed, although it was then known that she was suffering from an incurable internal complaint.  The late Mrs. Caldwell was a native of Naseby, but had resided in Rushden for upwards of 40 years.  She was a member and regular attendant of the Park-road Baptist Church and also of the B.W.T.A.  She leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn their loss.  The funeral took place on Tuesday at the cemetery, the first portion of the burial service being conducted in the Park-road Baptist Church by the Rev. R. C. Law, A.T.S., who also officiated at the graveside.  The coffin, which was of polished elm with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-

SARAH ANN CALDWELL
Died January 4th, 1918
Aged 61 years

The mourners comprised: Wm. Everard Caldwell (son) and Mary Jane Caldwell (daughter), Frederick Caldwell (son) and Lucy May Caldwell (daughter), John Edgar Caldwell (son) and Mrs. Wm. Caldwell (daughter-in-law), Mr. H. Adnitt (brother-in-law) and Mrs. H. Adnitt (sister), Mr. and Mrs. John Linnitt (cousins).  Beautiful wreaths were sent by the family, in the shape of a harp; by son and daughter-in-law; by Mrs. Fred and Emily Green, and a spray of flowers from Mrs. O. Woodman.
