The Funeral took place on Monday at the cemetery, of the late Mr George Burton, who passed away yesterday week at 6, Rectory-road, at the age of 59 years. The Rector (Rev P Robson) officiated. The coffin, which was of polished elm, with brass fitting, bore the inscription:- George Burton The mourners comprised Mrs G Burton, senior (widow), and Mr John Burton (brother), Miss Lily Burton (daughter) and Mrs Geo. Burton, junr. (daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Albert Burton (brother and sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs Fred Burton (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs Newell (sister) and Mrs Sharp (niece). A number of beautiful wreaths were placed on the grave. Mr Sanders was the undertaker. The late Mr Burton, who leaves a widow, one son and one daughter, was a bell-ringer at St Mary’s Church, of which he was a member for a number of years. One son, the late Pte. Herbert Frederick Burton, of the Northants Regt., was killed at the battle of Aubers Ridge, and the other son, Pte George Burton, of the R.A.M.C., is also in France and was wounded in the shoulder on Easter Monday, this year. |
