Mrs. Thomas Burton

Obituary—We have this week to record the death on the 9th inst., of Mrs. Thomas Burton, from cancer, at the age of 65 years, after a severe illness of about two months. Mrs. Burton, as is well-known, was an old and respected member of the Old Baptist Church, being admitted into that community on April 26, 1840. In the early period of her life she was for many years a worker in the Sunday School, and to within about three months of her death was a tract distributor, and was one of the earliest to join the temperance movement in Rushden. She was interred in the cemetery on Tuesday, the Rev. W. J. Tomkins officiating. The deacons also attended, and Messrs. W. Claridge and Jabez Colson were present as a deputation from the temperance society. The rev. gentleman will make special reference to her death on Sunday evening.
