Rushden Echo, 17th May 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mary Irene Brooks

Child’s Sudden Decease—We regret to report that Mrs Alice Brooks, wife of Mr Frank Brooks, of St Andrews, Fife, N.B., who is staying with her sister, Mrs H Eaton, at Manton House, Irchester-road, Rushden, has suffered bereavement by the sudden death of her little daughter, Mary Irene Brooks, who passed away on Monday morning, at the age of six weeks. It appears that at 9am on Monday the little girl was apparently quite well, but an hour and a half later when Mrs Brooks went to look at her she was found to be very ill. Dr Baker was at once sent for, and lost no time in responding to the call, but the little one had expired before his arrival. Information was sent to the coroner, but an inquest was considered unnecessary. The child’s father is, we understand, serving in His Majesty’s Forces. Mrs Brooks had arrived at Rushden from Scotland last Saturday.
