George Borman
Fatal Fall - Aged Finisher's Accidental Death

Inquest at Rushden

At the "Wheatsheaf" Rushden, on Tuesday, an inquest was held on the body of George Borman, of 11, High-street South, Rushden, a shoe finisher, aged 86, who died on Tuesday at the result of a fall.

The Deputy Coroner (Mr. J. C. Parker) conducted the inquiry, and Mr. H. H. Hebbs was foreman of the jury.

George Borman, a furniture remover, of High Street South, said the deceased was his father. On March 27th he was called to his father's house, and on going to the bedroom found the door would not open. He pushed it open a little way and squeezed inside. There he saw his father lying on the floor. Witness packed him up and put him to bed. He called in a doctor. Deceased said he had had a fall, and had been lying there for some hours. His father had had such falls before, and was subject to giddy fits. Witness's mother, aged 86, slept in the same room, but was too infirm to render any assistance or raise an alarm. Witness's mother said her husband got out of bed in the dark and fell down near the door. The old people preferred to live alone, but he thought someone should have lived with them. Both received the odd age pension.

Dr. Greenfield said he saw deceased soon after 10a.m. on Wednesday, March 27th. Deceased was in bed, and witness examined the man. He was conscious and said he had considerable pain in the back and neck. Deceased told witness he had got out of bed and fell over the carpet, and could not get up. His wife was in the room, but was bedridden and could not render assistance. Death was due to shock following the injuries. Deceased had been properly attended to, and witness had treated the couple previously.

The jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."
