Rushden Echo, 28th April 1922, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs. Elizabeth Betts

Rushden Tradesman Bereaved—It is with very deep regret that we have to report the death, which occurred about 8.20a.m. on Tuesday, of Mrs. Elizabeth Betts, aged 64, wife of Mr. Fred Betts (principal of the firm F. Betts and Son, seedsmen, florists, and nurserymen), High-street, Rushden. Mrs. Betts suffered from a severe illness several years ago, and she never properly recovered from the effects, although she was able to perform household duties. About thee months ago she became suddenly worse. Influenza and bronchitis, combined with heart weakness, were responsible for her end, which came very peacefully after a great deal of suffering, patiently borne. Mrs. Betts about 35 years ago (the Miss Porter) and Mr. Betts met at “Mentmore,” Earl Rosebery’s country seat, near Leighton Buzzard. Besides the widower, there are left to mourn their loss two sons and one daughter, Mr. Frank Betts (of Messrs. Lovell and Betts, motor engineers, Higham Ferrers), Mr. Fred Betts, junr. (in partnership with his father), and Miss Ida Betts. Mr. F. Betts, senr., was for about 25 years choirmaster of the Park-road Wesleyan Church. He was first in business in Queen-street and Rectory-road, and after the Rectory-road widening, in High-street. The late Mrs. Betts was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Porter, of Aylesbury.
