Deaths - BATES - On 1st inst., at 15 Montague-street, Rushden, John Bates, aged 84 years.

Local obituary
The death occurred on Tuesday morning, at 15 Montague-street, Rushden, of Mr John Bates, aged 84 years. Mr Bates had only been ill for a short time, being confined to his bed for a week. Death was due to heart failure.

The deceased was a widower, his wife having died about seven years ago. Two sons and three daughters are bereaved. Although a native of Poddington, the deceased had resided in Rushden for about 50 years. He was a member of the Park road Baptist Church, and attended when his health permitted.

The funeral takes place this afternoon (Friday) at the Rushden cemetery and Messrs. Arthur Sanders, Ltd., have the arrangements in hand.

Funeral
The funeral of the late Mr John Bates, of 15 Montague-street, Rushden, took place at the Rushden cemetery on Friday afternoon last, preceded by a service at the Park-road Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev TW Gill. The family mourners were Mr and Mrs J Bates (son and daughter-in-law), Mrs T Surridge (daughter), Mr C Surridge (grandson), Mr and Mrs W Bates (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs L Baxter (son-in-law and daughter), Mr C Bates (brother), Mr T Mason (grandson), Mrs Ward (sister), Mr and Mrs H Bilson (cousins), the Misses E and M Bates (grandchildren), Mr A Bates and Mr A Surridge (grandchildren), Mrs C Hardwick (cousin), Mr R Cross and Mrs Mantle (friends).

The floral tributes were from Jesse, Laura and family; Emmie, Cliff, Annie and Boris; Bill, Tot and family; Annie and Len; Brother Charles and sister Mary; Tom and Mabel, Gert and family, Canada; Aunt Jane, Mabel, Phyllis and Sheila; Herbert and Rose; Mrs Hardwick and family; George and Winnie; Mr and Mrs Griffith, Mr and Mrs Willmott; Mr and Mrs Bilson; His Old Friend Robert Cross; Joan. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Arthur Saunders Ltd.
