BEREAVEMENT – The death occurred on Friday at her residence, 15, Montague street, of Mrs Ellen Bates, wife of Mr John Bates. Mrs Bates’s death was caused by various complaints, heart disease and dropsy being chief among them. The deceased had been ill for three months. She was a member of the Rushden branch of the B.W.T.A., and of the Rushden Park-road Baptist church. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the Rev JA Sutherland officiating. The mourners were Mr J Bates (husband), Mrs May (daughter), Mr Jesse Bates (son), Mrs J Surridge (daughter), Mr W Bates (son), Mr J Surridge (son-in-law), Mrs Jesse Bates (daughter-in-law), Mrs Wm Bates (daughter-in-law), Mrs and Mrs Charles Bates (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr Matthew Bates (brother-in-law), Mr and Mrs O Brown of Retford (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs Bilson of Wellingborough (cousin), Mrs Percival (sister-in-law), Mr Tom Mason and Mr Clifford Surridge (grandsons). Mr J Bates and family desire to thank all the many kind friends and family who made inquiries during the illness of Mrs Bates and for the messages of sympathy in their bereavement and for the beautiful floral tributes sent.

DEATHS – On May 1, at 15, Montague-street, Rushden, Ellen Bates, aged 79 years.
