Mr Joseph Barwick Passes Away

Rushden Echo, 16th March 1923

We regret we have to record the death, which took place at 21 Fitzwilliam-street, Rushden, on Saturday, of Mr Joseph Barwick, aged 74, after an illness in bed of only about a week. It will be remembered that The Rushden Echo published an account of the sudden and unexpected death of Mr and Mrs Barwick’s son “Monty,” for some time a radio manufacturer in the United States. That heavy blow, which happened a week before Christmas last, very seriously affected Mr J Barwick, who had suffered for years with bronchial troubles. About a fortnight ago Mr Barwick was taken critically worse after going to bed, and Mrs Barwick called in Mr Bugby, a neighbour, who summoned Dr Muriset. The doctor did all that medical skill and human aid could, but without hopes of a recovery of the patient.

Much sympathy is felt with the bereaved widow and relatives, one son being in South America. Mr Barwick for many years was a watch and clock repairer, occupying a shop in High-street South. He was a member of the Rushden Conservative Club, the flag there being flown at half mast on the announcement of his death.,

The funeral

Took place in Wednesday at the cemetery, the Rev P E Robson (Rector) officiating. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Whittington and Tomlin.

[A list of mourners and wreaths follows]

Mrs J Barwick and the family and relatives desire to express their sincere thanks to all the many kind friends for help and sympathy and for the beautiful wreaths.
