Rushden Echo, 31st May 1901, transcribed by Kay Collins
Death of Mr. W. Ablett

Under sad circumstances the death took place yesterday, in Leeds, of Mr. William Ablett, finisher, of 13 Victoria-road, Rushden, at the age of 49. Deceased and his wife travelled to Leeds last Saturday to spend a few days with some friends there, and the intention was to proceed eventually to Scarborough. Mr. Ablett was apparently in his usual state of health when he left home, but early on Sunday morning, at his friend’s house, he was seized with a fit of a very serious character. The symptoms subsequently became so alarming that deceased’s two sons and two daughters were summoned from Rushden, and they hastened to Leeds to what proved to the death-bed of their father, for after a third seizure Mr. Ablett passed away yesterday (Thursday) morning at about ten o’clock. His wife and family were with him at the time of his death, but he practically never regained consciousness after the first seizure. The body is to be removed to Rushden to-day, and the funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday) in the cemetery. Deceased, whose sterling worth of character and unassuming manners had won for him the esteem of the congregation of the Independent Wesleyan chapel, High-street, and it is expected that the Rev. T. G. Harper will conduct the funeral. Much sympathy is felt in Rushden for the widow and family in their bereavement under circumstances so painful. It may be added that deceased was a member of the Irthlingborough lodge of the Ancient Order of Foresters.
