Mr. W. Abbott, Rushden
One of the first members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in Rushden, and a devout churchworker, Mr. William Edward Abbott, passed away at his home, 25, Brookfield-road, Rushden, yesterday (Thursday). He was aged 73 years, and his death followed a long illness. Mr. Abbott was a native of Mears Ashby, but came to Rushden over 40 years ago. Before his illness he was a sidesman at St. Peter's Church, and also a member of the Parochial Church Council. His connection with the Rushden St. John Ambulance Brigade goes back to 1879, when he became one of the first of the Brigade's members. During the last war Mr. Abbott served in the R.A.M.C.

Mr. Abbott's wife, Mrs. Ellen Abbott, died two years ago. He leaves a son, Mr. F. V. Abbott, and a daughter, Mrs. H. Ball, both residing in Rushden.

The funeral will take place on Saturday morning, and the service will be conduced at St. Peter's Church by the Vicar, the Rev. P. Barwell Spriggs.

The funeral of Mr. William Edward Abbott, of 25, Brookfield-road, Rushden, whose death was reported in last week's "Echo and Argus", took place on Saturday morning, the service being conducted at St. Peter's Church by Vicar, the Rev. P. Barwell Spriggs.

The mourners were: Mr. F. Abbott and Mrs. H. Ball (son and daughter), Miss F. Ball (granddaughter), Mr. H. Ball and Mrs. F. Abbott (son-in-law and daughter-in-law), Miss N Ball (friend), Mr. A. Laywood, Mr. G. Ambridge and Mr. W. Knight (friends), Miss W. Clipson (St John Ambulance Brigade).

Messrs T. Swindall and Sons carried out the funeral arrangements.
