Rushden Echo and Argus, 25th May 1945, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr. A. E. Abbott

A high reputation as a trombone player was held in his younger days by Mr. Alfred Edward Abbott, of 41, Midland-road, Rushden, who died at his home on Thursday, aged 74.

Son of a noted bombardon player, Mr. Abbott learned to play an instrument when only eight years of age, had early experience with Rushden National Band, and when thirteen joined Rushden Temperance, playing the tenor horn for two years and then finding his mark as a trombonist. For about 25 years he appeared with the "Temps" as principal trombone player, being with the band when it ranked among the best in the country. He fulfilled solo engagements in many towns, and won solo prizes at important contests. Born at Irchester, Mr. Abbott was in the boot trade until, just before the last war, he joined his brother Frank in business as a dairyman. He was fond of sport, and served for some time on the committee of Rushden Town F.C.

Mr. Abbott was a widower. He leaves a son, Mr. Archie Abbott, who conducts the dairy business, and a daughter, Mrs A Barford.

The funeral will take place on Monday.
