Mr George E.C. Woollard

The funeral of Mr George Edward Church Woollard, the victim of the gun shot tragedy at Rushden House Sanatorium, took place on Saturday and was attended by representatives of the various bodies with which Mr Woollard had been connected.

The first part of the service was held in the Parish Church, where the Rector (Rev. Travers S. Stoney) was assisted by the Rev. C.J. Keeler (Circuit Minister, Wesleyan Church Independent) and the Rev. G. Brooke Hunt (Curate, St. Mary’s Church).  The Rev. C.J. Keeler conducted the committal service at the Rushden cemetery.

The family mourners were, Mrs Woollard (Widow) – Mr E. Woollard (Son) – Mrs H. George (Mother in Law) – Mr F. Woollard (brother) – Mr & Mrs Fred Andrews (Brother in law & sister) – Mrs Horsfield (sister in law) – Mr A. George (brother in law) – Miss A. George & Mrs Payne, Irchester, (aunt and niece).

Dr J.H. Crane (Medical Superintendent) – Mrs Crane and Miss Williams (Matron) represented Rushden House Sanatorium – Mr W. Robinson represented Wymington Church – Mr J.W. Reynolds, the Wymington Branch of the British Legion and the Rev. J. Sinfield, the Wesleyan Reform Circuit.  There were also representatives of the Wymington Independent Wesleyan Chapel and the Women’s Auxiliary, and the Rushden St. Mary’s Mothers Union.

Also present at the Church and graveside were, Mr A. Langford – Mr C. Brown – Mrs Lewis – Miss Hart and Mrs S.J. Hart – Mr J. Clayton – Mrs G. Clayton – Miss C.S. Mason – Mr H. Bettles – Mr Cox – Mrs Barnett – Miss Barnett – ex Inspector Knight – Mr T. Richardson – Mr F. Wilsher – Mrs Newell – Mrs Warren – Mrs Furness – Mr F. Noble – Mrs Minney – Mrs E.A. Clayton – Mr W.A. Robinson – Mrs Woods – Mrs Ward – Mr & Mrs W. Windsor – Mrs Tye.

The bearers were Messrs C. Dickerson, J. Lickerish (Members of the Wymington Independent Wesleyan Church), G. Darlow and F. Warren (Sanatorium staff).

Messrs. Whittington and Tomlin, Rushden, carried out the funeral arrangements.

The grave was lined by Messrs. F. Betts and Son, as a token of respect.
