Known to many Rushden people as a past teacher at the Newton-road Schools, Miss Christian Miller Watson passed away at her residence, “Langside,” Shirley-road, Rushden, early last Friday morning.
Miss Watson, who was 65 years of age, had been in poor health for some months. She was born in Chile, S.America, and came to Scotland early in her life and eventually to Rushden in 1897.
From 1898 up to her retirement five years ago she taught at the Newton-road School and for a period in between at the North End School (now the Intermediate). Several years ago she was President of the National Union of Teachers in Rushden. A member of the Park-road Methodist Church, she held several offices there at various times.
Her father was the late Mr.T.Watson, gas engineer and manager to the Rushden, Higham Ferrers and District Gas Co., a position afterwards held by her brother, Mr.A.T.Watson, who died in 1938, and now occupied by her nephew, Mr.T.Watson.
Three sisters, who live at the same address, are left Mrs.Thompson, Miss Grace R.Watson and Miss Helen Watson.
