Alice Unwin Muxlow

MUXLOW On December 16th Alice Unwin Muxlow O.B.E. aged 82, of 124 Newton Road, Rushden. Wife of the late O. A. B. Muxlow, dear mother of Tom and Megan and grandmother of Thomas. Cremation at Kettering on Tuesday.

Mrs Alice Muxlow, a member of Rushden Urban Council for 26 years and a member of many local committees and organisations, died in Northampton General Hospital on Thursday, aged 82.

The funeral to be held at Rushden Parish Church on Tuesday followed by cremation at Kettering.

A native of Sheffield, she moved to Rushden in the early 1920’s when her husband became manager of the Midland Bank.

She was the first woman to be elected to the Rushden Urban District Council in 1938. She sat as a Liberal before becoming Independent, was Chairman 1946-7 and 1955-56 and remained on the Council until 1964.

She was Chairman of the Infant Welfare Committee until her death. She was Chairman of the Women’s section of the British Legion and former member of the Rushden Hospital Management Committee.

She had charge of the WVS throughout the war.

She lived at 124, Newton Road, Rushden. Her husband died 8 years ago.
