Mr. A.T. Ginns Passed Away - In His Ninetieth Year

The death occurred on Monday of Adam Tyrrell Ginns, of 8, High-street south, aged 89 years. The late Mr. Ginns was a native of Rushton, near Kettering, and came to Rushden in 1870 when he took over the blacksmiths business in High-street south. Upon his arrival in Rushden he joined the choir of St. Mary’s Church and remained a member for some 55 years before advancing years brought about his retirement. His son, Mr. W. N. Ginns, has been in the choir for over forty years and one grandson is still a choirboy. Two other grandchildren have also been choirboys. The late Mr. Ginns was a keen football enthusiast and a follower of the Rushden Town Football Club. He attended almost every match up to within two years of his death. He was also one of the promoters of the old National Band and a teacher in St. Mary’s Sunday School for some years.

One son and two daughters are in bereavement, the elder daughter, Mrs. G. E. Cunningham, now residing in Canada. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, the Rev. G. Hatt Lipscomb (Curate) officiating. Mr. J. Enos Smith was at the organ and the choir were in attendance. “Nearer, My God to Thee” was sung and the 23rd Psalm was chanted. As the cortege left the church the organist played Handel’s “Largo.” The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Ginns (son and daughter-in-law), Miss E. Ginns (daughter), Mr. H. Ginns and Mr. Eric Ginns (grandsons). Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Shatford, of Kettering (cousins). Mrs. Bozet and Mr. F. Bateman (friends). Wreaths included one from Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Sartoris.
