Funeral of Mr. Fred Darlow

Several old friends in sport and business attended Rushden Congregational Church last Friday afternoon for the funeral service of Mr. Frederick Darlow (73), of 87, Spencer-road, Rushden, whose death on May 30th followed a long illness.

The Rev. Fred Stafford, minister of Wellingborough High-street Congregational Church, and the Rev. T. S. Kee, of Rushden Independent Wesleyan Church, took the service, Mr. Stafford referring to Mr. Darlow's love of home and church, and to his constant visitation of those who were sick.

Two hymns sung, "All as God wills" and "Purer yet and purer" were among Mr. Darlow's favourites. Mr. L. V. Elliott was the organist. The principal mourners were: Mrs. Darlow (widow), Mr. and Mrs. Jack Darlow, Leicester (nephew and niece), Mr. Ian Darlow, Leicester (great-nephew), Mrs. James, Keysoe (cousin), Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith, Yardley Hastings (cousins), Mrs. C. Lingard, London, Mrs. R. Brown and Miss T. Brown, Wellingborough, Major Miss A. Goldring, Salvation Army, Brighton, Miss Sharp, Mrs. M. Elliott, Mr. H. J. Dudley. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Turner, Mrs. Mallett and Mr. H. Whitworth (friends).

Among many others at the church, were noticed Mr. A. E. Rodhouse (Northampton), Mr. F. J. Sharwood, C.C., Mr. Don Bugby, Coun. J. George, Mr. W. E. Griffin, Mr. Brawn, Mr. C. Neal, Mr. E. Dickens, Messrs. P. Woolston and H. Macleod (representing Messrs. H. Ingle and Sons), Mrs. H. Payne, Mrs. Whitworth, Miss W. Berry, Miss G. Elliott, Mrs. E. Bloor (Congregational Church), Mrs. F. Abbott, Mrs. H. Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. Dickerson, Miss. Porter, Mrs. Bandey and Miss M. Dickens.

A request had been made for no flowers, but the following tributes were sent: In precious and loving memory of my dear husband from your loving and devoted wife Helen and Sister Betty (Canada); With deepest sympathy – Hilda and Don Bugby; From Nellie and Annie, "Rippledene"; With deepest sympathy from Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Dudley and Freddie, also from Mr. and Mrs. H. Ward; From all the neighbours, as a token of our love and sympathy.

A further service, conducted by the Rev. F. Stafford and attended by the male mourners, took place at Kettering Crematorium, where the ashes were scattered in the Garden.
