Condolence of the King

Mentioned in Dispatches for gallantry and distinguished service


Major James Alexander Browning

Mrs James A. Browning, widow of the late Major Browning ex Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) has received the following letter:-


War Office,
Whitehall.
4th January, 1916


Madam,

I have it in command from His Majesty the King to inform you as heir of the late Major James Alexander Browning of the 2nd Dragoon Guards, that this officer was mentioned in Dispatches from Field Marshal Sir John French, dated 3rd May 1915, published in the London Gazette, dated 22nd June 1915 for gallant and distinguished service on the field.

His Majesty desires me to condole with you on the loss you have sustained and to express his high appreciation of the services of the late Major J.A. Browning.

The late Major Browning, as our readers will remember, was the son of the late Mr Edward Campbell Browning, M.A. J.P. and Mrs Browning, formerly of Rushden House.
