Alice Back

The funeral took place at Rushden Cemetery of Miss Alice Back, who died on Sunday at ‘Eaton Lodge’, Cromwell Road, Hove.  The deceased who was 66 years of age was a native of Jedburgh, Scotland.  For nearly half a century she was nurse in the family of Mr E.C.Browning and Mrs Browning of ‘Knuston Hall’ and later of Rushden House, Rushden.

After the death of Mr Browning, Miss Back accompanied the family to ‘Hove’, and it was at the residence of Miss Mary Browning that she died.  During the time she was at Knuston Hall, Miss Back was a teacher in the Irchester Church Sunday School and on the removal of the family to Rushden House she became a Sunday School teacher at St.Mary’s, Rushden.

Miss Back had of late suffered from an internal complaint which resulted in her demise, though she was able to get about until a few weeks before she died.  The body was conveyed from ‘Hove’ to Rushden by road and the interment took place in one of the Browning family’s graves.  The Rector (the Rev.P.E.Robson, RD) officiated at the funeral and the family mourners were:
Mrs Bye and Mrs Story (Sisters)
Mr Storey (Nephew)
Representing the Browning family were:
Miss Mary Browning
Mr and Mrs S.Terry‑Short
Mrs James Browning
Mr J.Simpson
Miss N.Simpson
Mr James Simpson
and Miss Nottingham.

The late Miss Back had nursed the whole family of Mr and Mrs E.C.Browning, including the Major, J.A.Browning who was killed in the war.
