A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Peter’s Church, Rushden, on Saturday, by licence, the contracting parties being Miss Elsie M. Wright, of Washbrook-road, Rushden, and Corporal S. V. Newman, of College-street, Irthlingborough. The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a grey costume with white silk hat trimmed with orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of lilies, and also wore a silver and enamel regimental badge, the bridegroom being a dispatch rider in the Royal Engineers. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids – Miss Dorothy Newman (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Rene Lovell (friend of the bride). Both were attired in navy costumes with silk hats to match, and wore sprays of pink and white carnations, maidenhair fern, and Roman hyacinths, the gifts of the bridegroom. The duties of best man were efficiently carried out by Mr. Harvey Newman, brother of the bridegroom. A reception was held at the bride’s home. Corporal and Mrs. Newman were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents.
