Rushden Echo, 30th July 1920
Newman - Clarke

The wedding took place yesterday afternoon at the Park-road Wesleyan Church, Rushden, of Miss Lilian Maud Clarke, only daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. J Clarke, of 11 Alfred-street, Rushden, to Mr. Fred Newman, only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Newman, of Scarborough-street, Irthlingborough. The Rev. C. Evans officiated. The bride, given away by her father, wore a white crepe-de-chine dress and a bridal veil trimmed with orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of lilies, white carnations, and sweet peas. Miss Nellie Partridge (cousin of the bride), and Miss Lily Smith (cousin of the bridegroom) attended as bridesmaids. Miss Partridge was attired in crepe eolienne, and Miss Smith in tussore silk, each with a black lace hat. They wore gold brooches, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. L. Clark, cousin of the bride discharged the duties of best man. The hymns “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “O Perfect Love” were sung, and as the happy couple left the church the organist, Miss Rose Peck, played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March.” A reception was afterwards held in the Congregational School-room. The bride was the recipient of a handsome crumb brush and tray from her fellow-workers at Messrs. Jaques and Clark. There were also many other handsome presents.
