Weddings in Rushden
MAY - BATES

At the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, on Monday, the marriage of Mr Hebert Henry May, formerly of Kettering, now of Rushden to Miss Annie Elizabeth Bates, second daughter of Mr John Bates, of Montague-street, Rushden, took place, the Rev. W F Harris officiating. The bride, who was given away by her father, was prettily attired in white twill Jap silk, trimmed with real Galle lace and insertion, chiffon and orange blossom; she wore sprays of orange blossom in her hair and a veil lent by Mrs Wratten; she carried a shower bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Emily Bates (sister of the bride), wore a dress of white silk, trimmed with Galle insertion. The other bridesmaid were Miss Millie Cross of Blisworth (cousin of the bride), who was attired in white silk, trimmed with Valenciennes lace and ruching; Miss Annie Brown, of Retford (cousin of the bride) who wore a dress of pale blue nuns veiling trimmed with cream insertion; Miss Sarah Cross, of Retford (cousin of the bride), who was robed in pale blue nuns veiling, with trimmings of pillow lace. The bridesmaids wore black picture frame hats with ostrich feathers and carried bouquets, the gift of the bride. The groomsmen were Mr J Bates (brother of the bride) and Mr Thomas Mason (brother-in-law).

After the ceremony a reception was held at the B.W.T.A. Hall, over 60 guests being present.

The honeymoon is being spent at Retford. The brides travelling dress was of electric blue cloth, trimmed with white satin, and she wore a large black picture hat. The bridal dress, the brides travelling dress, and the chief bridesmaids dress were made by Mrs Sibley of East-grove, Rushden.
