At the Independent Wesleyan Church, Rushden, on Saturday, Miss Megan Gwynith Hughes was married to Mr. David Martin.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Hughes, of 66, Oakley Road, Rushden, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Martin, of “Rushbrook,” Bedford Road, Rushden.

Given away by her father the bride wore a dress of ivory satin cut on classical lines with a train and an old family lace veil held in place by a coronet of orange blossom.

She had a pearl necklace and a bouquet of red carnations.

There were five attendants – Miss Ivy Kathleen Bailey (cousin of the bride), Miss Jean May Clarke (friend), Miss Jennifer Mary Martin (sister of the groom), Miss Ann Mary Hughes (sister of the bride), and Miss Pamela Cox (friend of the bride).

Miss Bailey wore hyacinth blue crepe, Miss Martin rose pink figured taffeta and Miss Hughes and Miss Cox white crepe. The senior three had silver headdresses and muffs with sprays of anemones and daffodils, and the last pair carried posies of similar flowers.

The bridegroom gave gifts of necklaces and bracelets to the attendants.

The Rev. J. Renison officiated at the ceremony and daffodils were used in the decoration of the church. Mr. William Terry, of Eastbourne, was best man. Mr. S. Weekley at the organ accompanied the hymns “O Perfect Love” and “Lead us heavenly Father, lead us.”

A reception followed at the Waverley Hotel and gifts included a bedroom chair and linen basket from the head office staff of John White Ltd. where the bride was employed.

The honeymoon is being spent at Brighton and for travelling the bride wore a powder blue dress with a navy coat and accessories.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin will reside at 71, Portland Road, Rushden.
