Rushden Echo, 7th March 1969, transcribed by Kay Collins
Richard & Michael Lumb

Following in their musical dad’s footsteps

They are following in father’s footsteps.... they are following their dear old dad. They are, in fact, the twin sons of Doctor Brian Lumb, a Rushden GP and chairman and assistant musical director of Music at Higham.

Having a father with the undoubted musical talents of Doctor Lumb is a lot to live up to. But the twins, Richard and Michael are not doing so badly.

Last weekend they were both members of Bedford Modern Junior School choir who came first in the under-11 age group at the Bedford Music Festival.

And it was the first time lucky for the nine-year-old boys who live at 114 Northampton Road, Rushden. The choir was formed just before Christmas and had never entered a competition before.

They sang their way to success with their versions of “Song of Shadows” and “Old Zip Coon” and their choirmaster, Mr. C. Howard, sang along with them.

The festival was held at the Corn Exchange, Bedford, and lasted about a week.
