Miss Joan Phyllis Hitchins, of 26, Station-road, Rushden, was married on Saturday to Mr. Cyril Charles Frederick Knight, of 71, Robinson-road, Rushden. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Hitchins, and the bridegroom, who is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Knight, is well-known in local cycling circles, holding numerous cups and being the winner of the Rushden Century Road Cycling Club's 1938 Best All-Rounder trophy. The ceremony was conducted at St. Mary’s Church by the Rector, the Rev. E. A. Green, and the bride was given away by her father. She was attired in white satin, with veil and orange blossom headdress, and carrying a bouquet of red carnations.
The two bridesmaids, Miss Edna M. Knight and Miss Owen D. Knight, were wearing old-world style dresses of blue taffeta with beaded headdresses and net caps, and carried posies of violets. Gold bracelets were also worn. Two page boys, Peter Knight and Bobby Darlow, wore navy velveteen trousers and pale blue blouses.
Mr Robert Darlow was best man, and the hymns "Lead us Heavenly Father" and "O Love Divine" were sung, Mr. A Clarke, A.R.C.O., accompanying at the organ.
After a reception the bride and bridegroom let for their honeymoon, which was spent at Cannon Hill, Birmingham, the bride travelling in a navy blue coat, trimmed with fur, and a navy hat.
Gifts included a dinner service from the employees of Messrs. Harris Bros., where the bridegroom is employed.
Mr. and Mrs. Knight will in future reside at 26, Station-road, Rushden.
Cars for the wedding were supplied by Neville’s Taxi Hire Service.
