A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Rushden, on Saturday, between Miss Jean Sonia Wilmott, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilmott, of 52, Wellingborough-road, Rushden, and Mr. Arthur Howat, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Howat, of Birmingham.  The bridegroom is a member of the staff of the Cambridge “Daily News,” and the bride has been well-known in Rushden as manageress of the “Bon Marche” drapery shop.  One of her most treasured possessions is a brooch given her as a souvenir of the League of Nations Union’s peace demonstration in Rushden some years ago, when, as a little girl, she led the procession.

Outside the Church

  On Saturday she wore a white satin gown cut in Elizabethan style, with train cut in one with the skirt.  Her tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of harrisii lilies and fern.  She was given away by her father.

  The bridal attendants were the Misses Joan Shoosmith, of Northampton (friend of the bride), May Bell, of Birmingham (friend of the bride) and little Valerie White (niece of the bride).  The elder bridesmaids wore turquoise crepe de chine dresses with coronets and gloves to match, silver shoes, and diamante brooches, gifts from the bridegroom, and their bouquets were of bronze chrysanthemums.  The small attendant wore pink taffeta with wreath and shoes to match, and a diamante necklet, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried a posy of pink roses.

  The bride’s mother was in blue velvet, with hat and shoes to match, and the bridegroom’s mother wore a petrol blue dress.  Both had sprays of pink carnations.  Mr. Mark Osborne, of Birmingham, carried out the duties of best man.  The ceremony was conducted by the Rector, the Rev. E. A. Green, and Mr. Alfred Clarke, A.R.C.O., played the organ.

  After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s home, following which the couple left for their honeymoon at Lytham St. Annes.  For travelling the bride wore a three-quarter length coat of Oriental design, with hat, shoes and bag to tone.  Mr. and Mrs. Howat will in future reside in The Broadway, Cambridge.
