Rushden Echo, 6th September 1918
Groome – Dawson

The marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, on Tuesday of Leading-Seaman Cyril Groome, only son of Mr. and Mrs. George Groome, of 19, Queen-street, Rushden, to Miss Florence May Dawson, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Dawson, of 4, South-terrace, Rushden.  The Rev. P. E. Robson (Vicar) officiated.  The bride, who was given away by her father, was tastefully attired in pale saxe blue crepe de chine, with hat to match.  She carried a choice bouquet of white lilies and chrysanthemums, the gift of the bridegroom.  There were four bridesmaids in attendance, viz., the Misses Mabel Dawson (sister of the bride) and Evelyn Harris (friend of the bride), who were fashionably gowned in white voile and blue hats, and the Misses Agnes Wilkins and Edith Burns (friends of the bride) who wore pretty dresses of pale blue Georgette with hats to match.  All the bridesmaids wore sprays of white chrysanthemums and roses, the gifts of the bridegroom.  The duties of best man were ably discharged by Mr. W. Eayres (uncle of the bridegroom).  Subsequent to the ceremony a reception was held at the Waggon and Horses Hotel, Rushden, where the bride has been employed for the past five years.  The bridegroom, who is well known in Rushden, has been in His Majesty’s Navy eleven years, and has achieved rapid promotion, being now leading seaman.  He is now down for further promotion to the rank of Petty Officer.  Prior to joining the Navy he was for some years a member of the Rushden St. Mary’s Church Lads’ Brigade.

Leading Seaman and Mrs. Groome were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents, including a cheque for ten guineas from Gunner and Mrs. Wilkins and family.
