Last night a very happy party assembled at the B.W.T.A. Hall, Rushden, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Mr Ray Goodwin, grandson (and adopted son) of Mr and Mrs Foster Vorley, of Rushden. The company, which numbered about 50, met at the kind invitation of Mr and Mrs F Vorley. Tea was served at 7p.m. and at the close of the repast several congratulatory speeches were made.
Mr F Vorley, in an appropriate speech, said he was glad that so many had responded to the invitation.
Mr B Vorley followed with some apt remarks and read a letter from Mr Thomas, pastor of Watford Tabernacle, sending best wishes for Mr Goodwin’s happiness.
Mr E Roe (pastor of Succoth Baptist Chapel) expressed the hope that Mr Goodwin’s future would be happy and prosperous and that he might have long life.
Kindly congratulations were also offered by Mr Bettles, Mrs B Vorley, and Mr Herbert Cox, and Mr Edward Featherstonehaugh, of Irthlingborough, read a congratulatory letter from Mr Chas Featherstonehaugh, who was unable to be present. Mr and Mrs Russell, of Watford, who were unavoidably absent, also sent a letter of hearty congratulation.
An interesting musical programme was then given. A pianoforte duet was played by Master Arthur and Miss Frances Vorley; Mr Bettles recited; Mr Robert Goodwin gave a song, the pianoforte accompaniment being played by Miss F Eady; Miss Hobbs sang (pianist, Miss Newell); and four grandchildren of Mr and Mrs F Vorley’s (from Irthlingborough) sang. The remainder of the evening was spent in games, and refreshments were served during the evening.
