Four Generations of Rushdenites

The above interesting group hold what is probably a unique position. They represent four generations, and all were born in Rushden and are still living in Rushden. Their ages range from 10 to 77.

All sporting enthusiasts in Rushden will have known Mr. W. Freeman and his son, Mr. Cyril Freeman, through their active association with cricket and football in the town. Mr. W. Freeman and Mr. G. Dickens assisted the Rev. Osborne (Curate under the late Canon Barker) to form one of the first Association Football teams in the county at Rushden about 40 years ago. Mr. Freeman has been connected with town football at Rushden ever since in the capacity of player and referee. Mr. Freeman also assisted Mr. Bale, of Earls Barton, to form the Northants League, and had the honour and pleasure of presenting the first medals won in the League to the winners, namely, the Wellingborough Reserves.

Mr. Cyril Freeman, who was presented last week with a time-piece for his invaluable services as secretary of Rushden Town F.C., has also practically lived amongst footballers all his life from boyhood, and has been a great asset to the game in Rushden. Long before the war Rushden Windmill F.C. was lucky enough to obtain the services as assistant secretary of so keen a football enthusiast. Mr. C. Freeman has also served local interests on the Northants Leagues Council for ten years. He has been secretary of the reformed Town F.C., secretary of the Cricket Club, and is also one of the trustees for the ground generously presented to the town by Mr. A. H. Sartoris, J.P.
