Percy Francis
This little box of maps was the property of Percy Francis.

Part of a Map
box of maps outer box a map
There are 7 maps within the box about 4½inches x 2¾ inches and just 1¼ inches (70mm x 105mm x 33mm). The outer box has a King George VI stamp for just 3 old pence (3d) so probably dates from the the 1940s. The return address if undelivered was "The Cyclist" Presentation Dept., Holford Square, London W.C. so perhaps it was a prize in some competition in the magazine? The scale of the maps is 8 miles to an inch, and each covers two sections. Inside there is "Useful information for cyclists" by
F J Camm, and includes a Summary of Cycling Law, National Bodies, New Camping Site Act, Notes About Bicycles, Some Interesting Cycling Facts, Railway Charges for Bicycles and Cloak Room Charges.
