| The marriage took place yesterday at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, by special licence, of Miss Laura Irene Deahl, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Deahl, of Southampton, and Second-Lieut Cecil William Evans, eldest son of Mr. W. A. Evans, of the Queen Victoria Hotel, Rushden. The Rector (Rev. P. E. Robson) officiated. The bride, who was fashionably costumed in navy blue, with black picture hat, was given away by her brother, Mr. George Deahl, and Second Lieut. Percy Colson, of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, efficiently discharged the duties of best man. Owing to the bridegroom’s short leave from the front, the ceremony was necessarily of a quiet nature. A brief honeymoon is being spent in London. The bridegroom, who came from San Francisco at the commencement of the war for the purpose of joining the Colours, has been through the thick of the fighting on the Western front during the past 2½ years. The bride is an accomplished musician. It is anticipated that after the war Lieut. and Mrs. Evans will take up their residence at the Royal Hotel, Kettering. Lieut. and Mrs. Evans were the recipients of many expressions of felicitation in the shape of numerous and costly presents. |
