Christmas Marriage - At the Park-road Wesleyan Church, Rushden, on Sunday, Miss E. Bertha L. Smith, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Smith, of 133, Cromwell-road, Rushden, was married to Pte. Abdon Dix, third son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dix, Grove-street, Raunds.  The Rev. H. Long officiated.  The bride was given away by her father, and there were two bridesmaids and a little boy in attendance – Miss Lily Smith (sister of the bride), Miss Mabel Dix (sister of the bridegroom), and Master Harry Edwards (nephew of the bride).  Mr. E. Askham was best man.  At a reception at the bride’s home there were a good number of guests.  The handsome presents included a silver teapot from the fellow-workers with the bride at Mr. Geo. Warner’s factory.

The bride has three brothers in khaki.  Frank, a private in the Northants, has twice been wounded in France, and is now at Shoreham on home service.  Ewart, a lance-corporal in the Northants (Pioneers), has been once wounded in France, but has been able to return.  Ernest is a private in the Pioneers and has served 17 months on the western front without a scratch.
